The Mainstream Media

This is what the mainstream media has to say these days:

According to a tape of her remarks, Foley said: "Journalists, by the way, are not just being targeted verbally or...ah, or...ah, politically. They are also being targeted for real, um...in places like Iraq. What outrages me as a representative of journalists is that there's not more outrage about the number, and the brutality, and the cavalier nature of the U.S. military toward the killing of journalists in Iraq."

Foley continued, "They target and kill journalists...uh, from other countries, particularly Arab countries like Al -, like Arab news services like al-Jazeera, for example. They actually target them and blow up their studios with impunity. ..."

This is the same claim made by Eason Jordan that led to his resignation...because it was false. Cases like this one and this one make it seem as though the US forces in Iraq are targeting journalists...if you forgot to take your meds today. As of February this year, 46 journalists had been killed in Iraq. In some cases, these deaths were a result of enemy activity or bad luck on the part of the reporter/cameraman. These situations actually account for the majority of deaths.

Sometimes, the activity of the journalist must be called into question. We expect 100% accountability from the US military, but not from others in theatre? If a journalist is killed while carrying supplies to an enemy position, his credentials hardly bear in the decision to classify him as an insurgent, enemy, terrorist, and finally, target.

Then there is the fact that people are killed in combat that shouldn't be. Take the recent death of activist Marla Ruzicka in Iraq - a result of enemy activity. The Sgrena case - a case of negligence and stupidity that resulted in another non-combatant killed. The murder of unarmed non-combatant Americans, simply for being in theatre.

There are plenty of problems in Iraq to be addressed without inventing more. If this is the attitude of the MSM, they should seriously consider dropping the "mainstream" from that title. Then, we can refer to the simply as M. What else begins with "M"?

Pretty typical considering the MSM's accuracy as of late. And what's going to happen to them if they don't get their act together? They'll go down with the ship, as the liberal media bias screeches on. And the fact that MSM blundering and blind-lemming approach to journalism has taught bloggers around the world one thing for certain - never put in print an absolute that you don't know to be true.
