Suspect dies in accidental shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. A Nashville police spokesman says an officer's pistol discharged accidentally, killing a man he'd just arrested after a chase.

James Denham died after he was struck in the back by a bullet from Sergeant Randy Reed's weapon. Denham was 49.Police spokesman Don Aaron says Reed was attempting to handcuff Denham, who had surrendered after leading police on a chase that ended when his car crashed into barriers at a downtown bridge construction site.Aaron says Denham moved as he was being handcuffed, causing Reed's service pistol to discharge.Police were investigating Denham in two attempted robberies yesterday morning.Aaron describes the incident as a tragedy for everyone involved.
