Water balloon splash =! Abuse

Kevin over at Media Slander has an intersting article about the Koran "abuse" and the mounting allegations that have stemmed from one ridiculous Newsweek story (coincidentally, the one which made me start blogging...):

I'll play the devil's advocate here for a moment, as a responsible journalist like yours truly should do. I have three choices as to who to trust in this situation: the Pentagon, war on terror inmates who are told in the al-Qaeda rulebook to make wild accusations, or a liberal press well-known for error, bias and lies. Sorry, but my choice is the Pentagon investigation.

While we're on the subject of perspective, let's go over some of the facts that Witt did not feel were relevant, such as the fact that investigators confirmed only five incidents in the 2 1/2 years that Gitmo has held war on terror prisoners. In every confirmed instant where a guilty party was identified (except for the water balloons), the soldiers or interrogators responsible were fired, transferred or disciplined. Also, the report found 15 confirmed accounts of detainees desecrating their own Korans, from mishandling them to defacing them, and intentionally urinating on them.

Last but not least, the only confirmed flushing incident was at the hands of an inmate who put two Korans in the toilet.

It seems to me that some detainees at GITMO are going to have some serious 'splainin' to do when/if they ever get out. Read the whole thing.
